Euro Truck Simulator 2 – Top 5 Tips for Beginners!
Simulators have come a long way since the rather blocky Mine-Craft Like offerings of the past.
From Flight Simulators and Second Life even! However when it comes to roads not much comes close to Euro Truck Simulator 2.
If you have a decent PC tower with a good video card on ‘Ultra’ in the graphics settings, it is actually easy to forget this is not real. Stick this in the upcoming ‘Oculus Rift‘ and I think you would actually be driving.
There are 5 top Tips I recommend for anyone playing this game.
1. Get a legit on from Steam so you can play on-line with others. And stream to Twitch! People love a newbies crashing – trust me, the bad drivers get just as many views ;). And are funny to watch :).
2. Buy a steering wheel and peddles! You can have the gearbox semi atomatic controlled from the paddles on the Steering wheel, but you might want to be a purest and ‘drive stick!’ There are only two worth buying a mid priced one and an expensive one (the pros use), if you like this game then get the expensive one. Google, those Steering wheels and ETS2 in Google images to see how some people have built actual cabs in their homes with wrap round screens and stick shifts – it is geeky but cool! Some have Flight Sims and use the same peddles but just switch the yoke for a wheel. It really is up to you how you go about it but the better the quality the wheel the easier and less fatiguing it will be to play as the ‘job’s’ can take some time to drive! I spoke to some expert players of this on Twitch and one said that you need to be able to look around to be totally immersive, and IR face trackers are quite expensive, so they pointed me to this video! Worth Watching!
4. Use this website and get into downloading mods. http://ets2mods.org/ They are easy to install, just make sure they are compatible with your releases else they will crash! I actually prefer being a White Van Driver tearing around the place, plus they are easier to reverse than an articulated lorry, and do not jackknife lol, but you can only pick up the white box trailers shown in my image above rather than larger loads that earn big bucks and are challenging to drive so I run short trips for pay or use my own arctic cabs if I get bored or need a change!
This is a Big Rig Mod called a Kenworth T800 (Kenworth_T800_for_kriechbaum_v1.01), that everyone seems to drive who are experts cos it whistles with a huge engine. But the long bonnet/hood can be a bit much on UK roads! I prefer the big Volvos but need more XPs to get them ;).
I also modded the scenery with the Snow landscapes in Winter. Awesome.
5. If you play locally, and don’t mind cheating, then grab this program and give yourself a million pounds to start you off. This is good because it takes a long time to drive across Europe making money. I want a big Garage with lots of Trucks NOW! I want to be able to speed and not worry about the speeding tickets or paying for collision damage 🙂 Job done!
Enjoy! It is getting better and better. Or why not check out Twitch and watch some pros playing it – it really is Hypnotic to watch!!!
So then? Its of to …
