CB Radio in the 80s A brilliant website to reminisce about the 80s…
Its funny but I was listening to the old Karl Pilkington CB radio chats on YouTube from his Podcasts he did with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. They also animated Karl talking about CB. Well I found a brilliant website that remembers ‘the good old days’ and people post their stories there and you can truly get lost in it! It kinda reminds me of ‘Friends Reunited’ a bit. The thing is many many young people now think CB was dumb. But they have the luxury of the internet and mobile phones. Trust me if they were removed tomorrow they would be straight on the CB to call their friend for free! 🙂 And that’s how it was. Well I found a brilliant site… I am probably the last to know about this site(?), but, if you are of a ‘certain age’ like me then chances are this site will truly please you…
I remember buying a flashing Eyeball badge when we went to CB club dances… And wondered if they were still around(?), the first hit I got from Google was this page and it was truly fun to read.

In any case, bit off topic to my normal posts, but this is a tech blog and lets face it nothing more techy in 1984 than an AM CB a dipole antenna and all the slang and chats about how far you could reach on the then illegal AM sets people used! The TV ad campaign about using illegal CBs was also exciting (That was the BT/PO detector vans looking for people illegally broadcasting back then) but tbh the reason why they then later licenced FM CB was because they could not control its popularity of AM. But FM killed it off as it had no range. And within a few years mobile phones started to make headway and homes had more than one phone installed.
